Colleen McWilson, MSN, CPNP

I believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. My passion is partnering with families to identify the underlying factors affecting their child’s health, support lifelong wellness, and help children reach their fullest potential.

After earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia, I began my career at UNC Children’s Hospital caring for children with hematologic and oncologic conditions. I later completed my Master of Science in Nursing and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Pennsylvania before joining Levine Children’s Hospital, where I spent eight years as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner on the inpatient hematology/oncology team.

Walking alongside children and their families through some of life’s most challenging seasons was both emotionally difficult and deeply rewarding. Those years strengthened my appreciation for the incredible impact of conventional medicine while also showing me that children with chronic health concerns can benefit from looking beyond symptoms to better understand the underlying factors influencing their health.

That realization led me to integrative medicine. I love taking the time to understand each child’s unique story and develop personalized care plans that support the whole child. Whether addressing digestive concerns, immune health, nutrition, behavior, or other chronic conditions, my goal is to empower families with a thoughtful plan to promote lasting wellness while using medications appropriately and intentionally when needed.

As both a pediatric nurse practitioner and a mother of three, I understand the joys and challenges of raising healthy children. I strive to ensure every family feels heard, supported, and confident that they have a trusted partner in their child’s health journey.

My husband and I recently made Winston-Salem home, where we’re raising our three children and our Bernedoodle. My Christian faith is the foundation of my life and guides the compassion and purpose I bring to caring for others. Outside the office, you’ll find me spending time with my family, riding my Peloton before sunrise, or working on a project around the house.

FAQ

A doctor of integrative medicine is a physician who practices functional and holistic medicine. Doctors of integrative medicine believe in a whole person or systems approach to managing chronic ailments and preventing illnesses.  Their main focus is on addressing the underlying root cause of disease instead of just covering up symptoms.

Additionally, they believe patients ought to be educated about their conditions and have a better comprehension of their treatment plans and the motive governing the treatment plan. This is why longer (half an hour) office visits with our doctors are routine at Robinhood Integrative Health (RIH).

We have a great, well-trained team of healthcare providers that will do their best so you can experience health as it ought to be.

Honestly, not much.  Functional and integrative medicine can pretty much be used interchangeably.

They both strive to treat an individual as a whole and concentrate on developing personalized treatments tailored to treat and cure underlying causes of disease.  They also attempt to restore people to an optimal state of wellness not just an absence of disease.

Our providers have training in both Integrative and Functional Medicine and continue to learn.  Our providers pursue ongoing medical education about various topics including hormones, thyroid dysfunction, anti-aging, chronic infections, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and IV therapies.  We strive to get better and more comprehensive every year.

We see patients as partners and work closely with you to ensure you’re receiving the treatments you need.

Our team of integrative health coaches can help with dietary and lifestyle changes to address specific concerns.  They work closely with the doctors/NPs to make sure the patients are able to acheive their health goals.
