Jessica Stocks is a Family Nurse Practitioner with a background in urgent care medicine. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and spent 10 years working in critical care before becoming a nurse practitioner. She also served in the United States Navy.
After years of caring for patients with complex and acute health concerns, Jessica began to feel that traditional medicine was sometimes missing an important piece—understanding why these health concerns were developing in the first place. Working in urgent care, she often found herself treating symptoms with medications, including antibiotics, without always having the opportunity to explore what was driving the problem. Over time, simply putting a “band-aid” on the problem didn’t feel like enough. She developed a strong interest in prevention and understanding the factors contributing to health, rather than waiting until disease had progressed to the point of requiring treatment.
After becoming a mother, this passion for prevention grew even stronger. She became increasingly interested in creating a foundation for lifelong health through the everyday practices and habits established early in life. This ultimately led her to functional medicine and its more comprehensive approach to patient care.
Jessica believes patients should be active participants in their healthcare. She strives to educate and empower patients to understand their bodies, take an active role in their care, and develop sustainable habits that support long-term health and wellness.
Her goal is to partner with each patient to uncover what may be contributing to their health concerns and create an individualized path toward feeling better and maintaining health for years to come.
A doctor of integrative medicine is a physician who practices functional and holistic medicine. Doctors of integrative medicine believe in a whole person or systems approach to managing chronic ailments and preventing illnesses. Their main focus is on addressing the underlying root cause of disease instead of just covering up symptoms.
Additionally, they believe patients ought to be educated about their conditions and have a better comprehension of their treatment plans and the motive governing the treatment plan. This is why longer (half an hour) office visits with our doctors are routine at Robinhood Integrative Health (RIH).
We have a great, well-trained team of healthcare providers that will do their best so you can experience health as it ought to be.
Honestly, not much. Functional and integrative medicine can pretty much be used interchangeably.
They both strive to treat an individual as a whole and concentrate on developing personalized treatments tailored to treat and cure underlying causes of disease. They also attempt to restore people to an optimal state of wellness not just an absence of disease.
Our providers have training in both Integrative and Functional Medicine and continue to learn. Our providers pursue ongoing medical education about various topics including hormones, thyroid dysfunction, anti-aging, chronic infections, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and IV therapies. We strive to get better and more comprehensive every year.
