“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Dr. Bruce Lantelme is a physician who looks at medicine differently. At RIH we have incorporated many streams of healing medicine that include: functional, alternative, orthomolecular, holistic,
anti- aging medicine. “Health As it Should Be” is when you begin to merge all streams together and apply it to one’s personal story.
Traditional medicine is very good with acute crises such as a severe infection, a myocardial infarction in progress, a fractured hip, or sometimes even cancer. It is not, however, focused on the role our environment plays in the development of most chronic illnesses. With traditional medicine, symptoms are treated much of the time, and it can even seem as though the hands are not related to the eyes, or the brain is not related to the gut. In modern medicine, a diagnosis is made and a drug is prescribed – rather than asking “How did this patient get to this point?”
When medicine is practiced in this way, chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease and even cancer seem to increase. Much of health care expense is maintaining chronic illnesses – not reversing the causes or preventing them in the first place.
Dr. Mark Hyman, author of The Ultramind Solution, says the following: “Today, medicine is in a serious predicament. The way we understand health and disease no longer reflects biological reality or the biological laws of nature. We need to understand that diseases are not fixed things that you catch or that just show up out of context, but are related to the environment, your diet, genes, and lifestyle”.
